Items to consider to help prepare your home for
sale and to achieve the best possible price. Not a comprehensive lists and you do not need to do all but will assist in achieving a sale. Some items may require specialist contractors.
Exterior Maintenance
Check for
damaged or missing tiles and repair as needed.
Clean
Gutters - Remove leaves and debris.
Check
Chimney & Fireplace - Ensure the chimney is clean and free of
obstructions. Consider having it
professionally cleaned if you use your fireplace often.
Inspect Exterior Paint - Look for peeling paint
or damaged siding to prevent water damage.
Seal Cracks & Gaps - Caulk windows, doors,
and any exterior gaps to keep cold air out and heat in.
Test Outdoor Lights - Ensure exterior lighting
is functioning, especially for shorter daylight hours.
Garden
Rake Leaves.
Prune Trees & Shrubs - Trim branches that
could pose a risk in high winds.
Keep the gardens nice and tidy and lawn cut.
Windows
& Doors
Check Weatherstripping - Inspect and replace
worn weatherstripping around windows and doors.
Wash Windows.
Plumbing
Service Heating System.
Test Thermostat - Make sure your thermostat is
working properly, especially if you use a programmable one.
Bleed Radiators - If you have radiators, bleed
them to release trapped air.
Safety Checks
Test Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors - Replace
batteries and test all detectors.
Inspect Fire Extinguishers - Ensure they are in
good condition and accessible.
Check Insulation- Ensure your attic and basement
are well-insulated to prevent heat loss.
Interior Maintenance
Check for Drafts - Use draft stoppers for any
noticeable gaps at doors or windows.
Deep Clean Carpets, Rugs and Flooring.
Redecorate rooms where required.
